Sustainable Novato has achieved a reputation for leadership in Marin County

2007-2008  

  • Our “Green Schools Roundtable” led to the new Green Schools Coalition of Novato
  • Won expansion of EPA internal air quality program “Tools for Schools”
  • Successfully lobbied for a City “environmental sustainablity goal”
  • Held televised forums on clean energy, zero waste, local business, lower-carbon transportation
  • Co-founded Novato Independent Business Alliance supporting locally owned businesses
  • Partnered with Saving Green by Going Green to promote Novato green business practices
  • Successfully encouraged Novato City Council to enact a Zero Waste Goals Resolution
  • Initiated work on a City-wide integrated pest management program

2004-2007

  • 2006-2007, Initiated a well-recieved and dialogue provoking series of community forums on Clean Energy/Community Choice Aggregation, Zero Waste/Redwood Landfill, Local Independent Business and Climate Change
  • Actively supported expansion of the EPA's Internal Air Quality (IAQ) Tools for Schools 2007-2008 successful adoption districtwide by NUSD.
  • Advocated for the 2007 campaign finance limits passed by Novato City Council.
  • A vigorous education campaign led the Novato City Council to enact one of the state’s first mandatory residential green building ordinances to apply to residential new construction and remodels.
  • Lobbied Whole Foods project developers to build to green standards.
  • Successfully encouraged Marin County’s planning team to schedule a County-wide green building workshop.
  • Advocated for Novato to join Cities for Climate Protection ICLEI CPC: International Council for Local Environment Inititatives, Climate Protection Campaign
  • Supported the National Mayors’ Agreement to cut greenhouse gas emissions signed by Novato’s Mayor.
  • Helped convince the College of Marin to use the $249.5 million bond funds to rebuild IVC and Kentfield as model green campuses.
  • Sucessfully advocated for the May 2006 re-establishment of the Novato Unified School District (NUSD) Integrated Pest Management (IPM) Committee.
