Marin Turns Out for 'Stop KXL' Rally

On February 17, a number of Marin “Sustainables” took the ferry into S.F. to join the giant crowd staging the Bay Area branch of the nationwide “Stop the Keystone XL Pipeline” rally organized by Bill McKibbon’s The idea that President Obama could actually reject KXL is still considered a long shot, but at least this rally helped prompt news coverage that includes include the arguments against this terrible project, as well as the fact that a large bloc of his loyal supporters believe this decision will be the defining act of his presidency.

"The True Cost of Oil" with Garth Lenz

On January 23, 2013, award-winning photographer Garth Lenz addressed a full-house audience at the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Marin on a sobering subject: the devastation being caused to the planet and humanity by the mining of crude oil from the Alberta Tar Sands. 'Why Sustainability Matters' Candidates' Night

On October 3 2012, Sustainable Novato, along with Sustainable San Rafael, Sustainable Marin and four other organizations sponsored a Candidates Forum "Why Sustainability Matters in Washington and Sacramento" at the Homeward Bound Next Key Center in Hamilton. First, the full-house audience watched the Presidential debate live on the big screen. Then Assembly candidates Michael Allen and Marc Levine and Congressional candidates Jared Huffman and Dan Roberts debated their positions on key sustainability issues. (Photos by Bob Spofford.)
