NUSD Integrated Pest Management
SN's advocacy helped establish the NUSD IPM Committee to support the Healthy Schools Act of 2000. This Committee includes parents, educators, adminstrators, the NUSD IPM Coordinator and Marin Master Gardeners. They review staff educational outreach opportunities and new alternatives to chemical herbicides for large-scale weed abatement such as Waipuna Hot Foam and Hydro Mechanical Obliteration. Sustainable Novato has been instrumental in forming an alliance with the MCSTOPPP school programs, helping to bring their curriculum workshops, open to all Marin County educators, to the Novato Charter School.

Internal Air Quality (IAQ) Tools for Schools
After the success of a long term pilot program, Marie Chan of the NUSD IPM Committee is working with NUSD to establish the EPA program "Tools for Schools" Internal Air Quality (IAQ) throughout the district. These are simple, measureable and low-cost ways to improve the health and safety of the classroom environment.
