A vigorous education campaign by Sustainable Novato encouraged the Novato City Council to enact one of the state’s first mandatory residential green building ordinances to apply to residential new construction and remodels. We continue to support City of Novato extension of Green Building ordinances to include 1) requirements for commercial buildings, and 2) to update GB new and remodeling checklists to the latest from Build It Green.
Ally with other Marin Sustainable organizations to create a seal of approval for selected green building materials and devices which local merchants can display with these products: an added incentive for people to buy green.
Develop a list of climate- and environment-protecting actions individuals and businesses can take when considering their homes and workplaces, PRIORITIZED by cost and effort, with examples, images and sources. Develop a presentation/talk to publicize the list, the seal of approval and the Green Building ordinance extensions.
"January 14, 2008 The Home Builders Association of Northern California endorses Build It Green’s GreenPoint Rated program. The Association endorsed the adoption of mandatory green building standards in all 101 Bay Area cities and counties based on GreenPoint Rated, making it the first major building association in the state and possibly the nation to embrace strong mandatory standards."
A GreenPoint Rated home is graded on five categories:
* Energy Efficiency
* Resource Conservation
* Indoor Air Quality
* Water Conservation
* Community
