Composting classThis is the year you’re finally going to stop procrastinating and get serious about composting!  (Or, if you’re already composting, this is the year you’ll raise your game to another level.)

It’s a win-win-win solution: You’ll grow bigger, healthier veggies and flowers; you’ll get those nasty chemical fertilizers out of your back yard; and, you’ll cut down the green waste being hauled off to the landfill.

All you need is a little push, and that will come from the folks at Green Point Nursery. With sponsorship from Sustainable Novato and the Marin Hazardous and Solid Waste JPA, they’re offering three Saturday morning classes in successful home composting.  You’ll get hands-on help in sheet mulching, building and managing a hot pile and the joys of composting with worms.  (It’s fun. Seriously!)

Please indicate if you want to buy one when you register for the class (below), so we know how many to order.

Class size is limited, so you must register in advance no drop ins. Download the course flyer (PDF) Here

Nancy Kelly and Kenji Yamamoto are Marin-based filmmakers with a long record of outstanding documentary and narrative films about important subjects. They recently completed “Rebels With A Cause,” narrated by Frances McDormand and produced in cooperation with KRCB-TV.

The film tells the inspiring story of the decades-long battle to save our Marin coast from intensive development. We’ve all heard the story of the local players in this drama – - Dr. Marty Griffin, Ed Weyburn, Phyllis Faber and more – - but this film integrates the whole story of how they worked with national figures like Stuart Udall, Rachael Carson, Ansel Adams and David Brower, to make their vision a reality.

Right now, “Rebels With A Cause” is winding up its tour of film festivals and fund-raising screenings. (It was an official selection of both the Mill Valley Film Festival and the United Nations Association Film Festival, among others.) Screening at the Rafael Theater will start June 7.
