About Sustainable Novato

108Join Us!  Help us make a difference. We are Novatans who believe that, working together, we can create a healthy environment that is also economically vital and socially equitable. Sustainable Novato advocates for — and educates about — practical steps that can take us toward that goal. We encourage sustainable personal living. But we also work for systemic changes that can bring less climate risk, cleaner energy, water conservation, fewer toxics, modernized transportation, better workforce housing, vibrant locally owned and operated, greener businesses, and more transparent and efficient government. We are dedicated to working constructively, cooperatively and inclusively with both government and our fellow Novatans toward those objectives.

Sustainable Novato is an all-volunteer community non-profit that works to enable end encourage more sustainable living in our city.  SN has helped induce City of Novato to adopt a climate action plan, a zero waste resolution and goals, and green building ordinance, and has worked with Novato Sanitary District toward a greener waste franchise agreement.  SN’s various community forums on localization of business, zero waste, clean energy, low-carbon transportation, and reduction of toxics have been aired on Marin public television stations.

Sustainable Novato is part of a network of independent Marin sustainable city groups that co-ordinate our efforts through Sustainable Marin, our county-wide information and services exchange. Increasingly, faced with our global climate emergency and related area-wide planning issues, the sustainable organizations have been teaming up to stage county-wide information events.  For example, in the fall of 2012, SN and the other sustainables staged a debate night Marin’s candidates for Congress and the State Assembly that focused specifically on climate change and other sustainability issues.
